Istanbul has decided not to wait. Work is underway at the Olympic Park, for which the land has already been allocated. The Atakoy Olympic Complex with two projects is reaching its final stages of completion: a gymnasium with a spectator capacity of 30,000 and an Olympic swimming complex with open air swimming and driving pools. The feasibility studies have already been approved for the Halkah Housing Project, a site that will serve as the 2004 Olympic Village and house 40,000 people after the Games.
