Rome: the Sport Events

R ome has a link with sports which goes back to the first years of its existence. Competitive spirit and sporting events have been a consistent feature in Rome’s history which began with the first wrestling competitions at the Fori Imperiali and the equestrian races at the Circo Massimo.

This passion for games has remained unchanged over the centuries and Rome has continued to host important sporting events.

Infact, Rome has hosted events such as the 1960 Olympic Games, the 1990 World Cup, the 1994 Swimming Championships, and the 1996 Championship Cup Juventus-Ajax.
In addition, the yearly International Equestrian Event in Piazza di Siena, the International tennis tournament, the Rome Marathon and the Golden Gala of Track and Field are an unmistakable tribute to Rome’s love of sports and the City’s proven ability to organize sporting events at all levels.

Results which have been widely recognized at international level, and which have been achieved thanks to CONI, the National Olympic Committee.
